The main reason for this was because our group took a few weeks to decide on a final concept and we also had members joining later on in the process. There was an also adverse weather condition that held up the first few weeks of term and stopped us from really talking face to face and knowing what we all wanted. With regards to the final idea we had it on our first true group meeting, yet dallied around with others for a while that in hindsight wasted quite a bit of time.<br /><br />I did begin my animation tests such as different water and using Maya Cloth for the flag quite early which I am glad about as I was able to utilise them quickly in the later stages, although rendering of the different elements did take a long time and my laptop frequently crashed at the end of the term, adding yet more time to render. In the end it came down to the last night for me to render completely. My schedule for the final night was to wake up every two hours and see how my rendering was going, which I did. There were a few times when rendering had not begun or my laptop could not cope with the final output, yet it did manage to render on time.<br /><br />I am quite pleased with my work this term and feel that I have learned a lot from the project, including:<br /><br />Using Particle effects to create fire<br />Using Softbodies and Dynamics for water<br />My modelling skills have definitely improved<br />UV and Planar Mapping for texturing<br />Using lights in the best was to highlight key areas<br />Layering of rendering and also objects within the scene<br />How to use real world objects and use them creatively for a different purpose<br /><br />I feel like I worked really hard on the project and although certain members of the team let us down throughout, I am proud of my own personal achievements. I did not think that I would enjoy the project as much as I have due to being mainly interested in character animation beforehand, and I also enjoy modelling and texturing far more than previously thought. I believe that my models look well together in the environment and that the water and fire animations also add an extra level of complexity to the images.<br /><br />On the other hand, I do feel as though there is a little bit of a divide between Lydia’s section in the cave and the main central part of the castle, mainly due to the lighting. I realise that the black background does not help matters and if we had been given a little bit more time I would have liked to see a starry sky in the background to give a bit more depth to the images. I was a bit disappointed with the lighting in the main castle, and wish that it had been just a little bit brighter or had more of a strong moonlit glow to enhance the textures and make them look more realistic. I think this would have made it look more akin to the cave where there are strong glows from the torches.<br /><br />Another point that could have been improved is the camera angles. Our story boarder did not actually produce any storyboards so it was left to me and a couple of other members to try and sort out which angles were needed at the last minute. If I had known he was not going to produce them I would have done some more myself rather than just quick shot ideas. One bit I was sad about in my final renders was that when the camera is following the light trail around the room you can barely see the actual fire, which is annoying because in the playblasts the particle effects can be seen. I did move the camera frames to try and compensate this after my first render yet not enough, and I did not have time to keep rendering to test it due to the amount of time it took to do so. If I were to continue this project that would be one of the first bits I would change, although I do feel that the other camera shots showing this section show off the fire very well and the fact that it trails around the room.Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-38609308279278851752010-03-08T12:42:00.000-08:002010-03-08T12:57:09.650-08:00Coming TogetherThe project is finally coming together woo! I did not animate this as I felt there would be too much movement in the scene with the fire moving around too and I did not want it to be too complex for the audience to take it. I think a little bit of movement would have been lost in the scene and as it was a calm night the water in the centre would not have been disturbed too much anyway.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4XgauxvECSG8zKLm9iBgI67QT4GXSuK7LDwnzIB5RyzEDas3H-crZEQYt-QeQpSNphWG3dG0D5ZhTYuko1aXRmuEhQjS8u4R4hPLGkcr2M2XVBZrf-Qs3j6v38vSoYfWL96gwrYVIG8EY/s1600-h/statue.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446367091833036754" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 256px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4XgauxvECSG8zKLm9iBgI67QT4GXSuK7LDwnzIB5RyzEDas3H-crZEQYt-QeQpSNphWG3dG0D5ZhTYuko1aXRmuEhQjS8u4R4hPLGkcr2M2XVBZrf-Qs3j6v38vSoYfWL96gwrYVIG8EY/s320/statue.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The final pieces for the centre all together (the fountain, fire, tombs, sword and balcony area that I worked on) :<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmLSx90_XULcr8lUalctLJwS3ABsH0Q42rkYmmbVLX4RJiuXvChbvcDjTJbZ2M8ps6FAJSEhZeA2kuwtVCovbSwNlYHJqv1ez6P4ReKRLhOHaXXhdWRQ3zmjduwdmw3zz5vKo-t74wqNNp/s1600-h/statue_02.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446367089068614226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 256px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmLSx90_XULcr8lUalctLJwS3ABsH0Q42rkYmmbVLX4RJiuXvChbvcDjTJbZ2M8ps6FAJSEhZeA2kuwtVCovbSwNlYHJqv1ez6P4ReKRLhOHaXXhdWRQ3zmjduwdmw3zz5vKo-t74wqNNp/s320/statue_02.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-48941660253157643032010-03-08T12:23:00.000-08:002010-03-08T12:39:37.496-08:00BalconyAs one final piece of modelling, I also added to the central part of the castle to make it seem a bit more detailed and also so that the ramp at the top of the stairs was not completely barren and the fire stemmed from somewhere interesting. I had previously altered Lydia's fire plynth to make it more decorative like the Bishop's staff at the British Museum. The symbol in the centre was also common during the Medieval time and I thought it would help give historical relevance to the piece.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm5aIqaucU4pcs53GgQvriRd9rTjpeiUVE2dR_gdlHPEJzDYTsHEwh7AgMaDYz0PYTgvC7PFiXp3JdcxrKiYK6DFciBeKIdAvvmtB0FLnsRaoxmIgyjVgvvtYMd1RPUvh4m9_JTLdefK0g/s1600-h/fire_base_2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446362054855702866" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm5aIqaucU4pcs53GgQvriRd9rTjpeiUVE2dR_gdlHPEJzDYTsHEwh7AgMaDYz0PYTgvC7PFiXp3JdcxrKiYK6DFciBeKIdAvvmtB0FLnsRaoxmIgyjVgvvtYMd1RPUvh4m9_JTLdefK0g/s320/fire_base_2.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The same can be said for the carpet I added behind the plynth. I realise that as the castle is derelict that the carpet would be in a worse state than this, yet the dark lighting would not make it seem this bright.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmyutMVx3-kT_vjbd_V09RoMJtXeAhGVqgsxsdEfEwEQBuuSIzB7z2x-yOParUY6dx988YgLpeR5jMIykJf7TGMUuOQeb_SqGUuKqoBP3crMCbUk5oPKz0pImlVO6lEovS2E5UsVSVSFhI/s1600-h/balcony.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446362047446795682" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgmyutMVx3-kT_vjbd_V09RoMJtXeAhGVqgsxsdEfEwEQBuuSIzB7z2x-yOParUY6dx988YgLpeR5jMIykJf7TGMUuOQeb_SqGUuKqoBP3crMCbUk5oPKz0pImlVO6lEovS2E5UsVSVSFhI/s320/balcony.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />I did have to fiddle around to make sure the plynth was directly underneath the fire trail as it was easier to extend the verts for this rather than change the whole fire position. I think the end result looks quite effective and I am glad I added the extra details. I did use Sam's pillars from lower down the ramp for my rail for consisitency in the scene, yet added this stone shader to make them look older and give the scene age. I think they create an aesthetically pleasing image and one the whole it is better than if I had just placed the plynth on the ramp.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJoS1iM0-OYb0NRLoGJ_Dj2-Fn-JwOWHsD4WTotLtoXyLyRbjxrsY2EKbZzAGf3BJqV93YownFNF69cY0RS3HgPKSDPLOZ6Ywis3g830Ejy-GSdu4SReJmV0ZU3-iRkAumA6XVycyykJKf/s1600-h/balcony_improved.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446362043477124226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 256px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiJoS1iM0-OYb0NRLoGJ_Dj2-Fn-JwOWHsD4WTotLtoXyLyRbjxrsY2EKbZzAGf3BJqV93YownFNF69cY0RS3HgPKSDPLOZ6Ywis3g830Ejy-GSdu4SReJmV0ZU3-iRkAumA6XVycyykJKf/s320/balcony_improved.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />These are the textures that I used for the carpet and the base, both of which I altered on Photoshop to make them fit in with the style of the rest of the environment:<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_6Rq3IBhgYcvAD2cNhYCFjSnaSG5IbhInzo-ObhIHIiKYECouMX5zpzPPNyvyv4rvXN96UnS0U32VLaBH1uXjrerXcWJ5N-2VmO68iDCeR7vR-uxKbCYV6jHNfMFcfkBaNg6efTr2AaWK/s1600-h/Classical-Carpets-Lotto.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446362035091333122" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 242px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh_6Rq3IBhgYcvAD2cNhYCFjSnaSG5IbhInzo-ObhIHIiKYECouMX5zpzPPNyvyv4rvXN96UnS0U32VLaBH1uXjrerXcWJ5N-2VmO68iDCeR7vR-uxKbCYV6jHNfMFcfkBaNg6efTr2AaWK/s320/Classical-Carpets-Lotto.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRz2XdW4WSv4Yj3SK1vZK4yQ07qxF_Eoft7l-ZC-7DSlqrFDz8693x3t8bKFGos2Vx1A6lOi5_5oir0KJ170EXe9AHtaqJmzdg7dLXLd0UWlwpIN_m2O5g5ccI4v8lXy1pTdQXWvGUSNJ6/s1600-h/GruebyInsig2k.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446362033092440434" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 317px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRz2XdW4WSv4Yj3SK1vZK4yQ07qxF_Eoft7l-ZC-7DSlqrFDz8693x3t8bKFGos2Vx1A6lOi5_5oir0KJ170EXe9AHtaqJmzdg7dLXLd0UWlwpIN_m2O5g5ccI4v8lXy1pTdQXWvGUSNJ6/s320/GruebyInsig2k.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-21147599074121837382010-03-08T12:04:00.000-08:002010-03-08T12:22:21.301-08:00Boat Animation<object height="300" width="400"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=10013524&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1"><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=10013524&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/10013524">opening</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user3184034">Hayley Allen</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.</p><br /><br /><br /><br />The following images show the beginning opening where I animated the water and boat drawing close to the castle. This was our establishing shot so I wanted to spend quite a bit of time making the water look impressive. The first image shows how the scene looked in Maya without the actual castle and the flag I added later. I parented these to the boat, yet keyframed the boat weight seperately as Maya didn't want it to work otherwise.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhli-8sRezxkL6GcQgeDdyrL9TrbqK442CpWkhFtqsorahHDIyDJS3XkI0L0CnCOBqzzgzaWTNL1TgJQHe_xDnohH7xk1IZkmTg3bMsCUjKbdnyIaLSkyhOGeD3wxWqrD7wWMVfBJDZbcSL/s1600-h/boat_maya5.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446357285155442050" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 200px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhli-8sRezxkL6GcQgeDdyrL9TrbqK442CpWkhFtqsorahHDIyDJS3XkI0L0CnCOBqzzgzaWTNL1TgJQHe_xDnohH7xk1IZkmTg3bMsCUjKbdnyIaLSkyhOGeD3wxWqrD7wWMVfBJDZbcSL/s320/boat_maya5.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-10819380814411658272010-03-08T11:45:00.000-08:002010-03-08T12:03:16.838-08:00Final Modelling<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnuD11HtaodItuwoLXGpg3VZMNzPNyakCSv-L02JyGIrUg3S5B_pQpfASBB1ZulG9aLDQCLyeskrEeMjajMxInLYBuV-BPhpAPywv74Mnm4goY-N5BmcffJ69L0CCrgeqP3HEzRpku8jd6/s1600-h/scan0002.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446354931828286226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnuD11HtaodItuwoLXGpg3VZMNzPNyakCSv-L02JyGIrUg3S5B_pQpfASBB1ZulG9aLDQCLyeskrEeMjajMxInLYBuV-BPhpAPywv74Mnm4goY-N5BmcffJ69L0CCrgeqP3HEzRpku8jd6/s320/scan0002.jpg" border="0" /></a> After group discussions, we thought it would look good to have tomb structures within the central part of the castle, as it shows that there was a history to Excalibur and they could be the forbearers of it before Arthur. I set to looking into medieval tombs for knights, including these images taken from the web and also one of my favourite computer games Broken Sword Shadow of the Templars.<br /><br />As I am going to create symbols for my sword, I thought it would be good to carry the designs across onto the tombs aswell. I began drawing different symbols for cultures or history but thought this would either be too obvious or not really relevant enough to the story we were trying to convey (it may have confused the audience to have an Egyptian tomb in the Lady of the Lake story for example). Therefore I started looking at the basic symbols of Fire, Water, Air and Earth. I found these triangle alchemic symbols and thought they were perfect for the seals on the tombs because they would be easy to recognise and relatively simple to model too.<br /><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-PaLrmXx94tVl0tDB_u3VljHGlIfwyzqsbfpAJ8g0VJN-OThJJoxXBi8H6mPFyfZkm9hzAMbTaNvB5PoEioNtNw_qfDVr-PTQ9m_NQpUJ_fJhRezHyoorPn8vnjQKVWPzurIdrii6FwUx/s1600-h/scan0003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446354925314599634" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-PaLrmXx94tVl0tDB_u3VljHGlIfwyzqsbfpAJ8g0VJN-OThJJoxXBi8H6mPFyfZkm9hzAMbTaNvB5PoEioNtNw_qfDVr-PTQ9m_NQpUJ_fJhRezHyoorPn8vnjQKVWPzurIdrii6FwUx/s320/scan0003.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />However, I did want to add my own touch to them so created these symbols myself, so that they continued the style of my drawing of the King Arthur seal for my flags etc. The idea behind the symbols is the fire looks like a flame (obviously), water looks a cross between a wave and a fish, earth is a tree coming up from the ground, and air is a box which represents space.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFxjsOZ_btRRTsFjqZW9VxVZcf5CY3Kh34B6f1ic9hdXN4hbsaWtpDYseKNSOzWBHI7gfPoUyIMBnmb_MzO0TLRTijOwxMqf16hHxxbBWPa12dpK5XmT78InLANpAbF7iIJl8le73_H2Ap/s1600-h/scan0006.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446354916535726754" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFxjsOZ_btRRTsFjqZW9VxVZcf5CY3Kh34B6f1ic9hdXN4hbsaWtpDYseKNSOzWBHI7gfPoUyIMBnmb_MzO0TLRTijOwxMqf16hHxxbBWPa12dpK5XmT78InLANpAbF7iIJl8le73_H2Ap/s320/scan0006.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />To create the textures I took an image of stone into photoshop, then traced over my drawings in different layers using my graphics tablet. Another point to add was that I used one of my photographs from the British Museum (again Photoshop edited to look more like the Clone Wars brush strokes), as it was from the early Medieval period and I though this would at least give a bit of history to the environment. I used Planar Mapping to make sure each of the faces looked just right, and also added a gold shader to the edges of the triangle seals to make them seem more regal and important.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWE9BpdDf1IfOBug5HVVd6w6Vwu6E3imgNawCqgxTHLE4RBGgB_6AiYjPHHiAKnMSm2Ii6uupomYhAEdBb0Ho-P7I_1R1__B8fvAUDVLFw1xgCmC7nluKMbJwdktSAAxdC7VdVQico23z_/s1600-h/tomb.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446353326817307650" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWE9BpdDf1IfOBug5HVVd6w6Vwu6E3imgNawCqgxTHLE4RBGgB_6AiYjPHHiAKnMSm2Ii6uupomYhAEdBb0Ho-P7I_1R1__B8fvAUDVLFw1xgCmC7nluKMbJwdktSAAxdC7VdVQico23z_/s320/tomb.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuUEYCJSkBqzeroPfOzPGelsCaZhsv0a6LKWbb-Z4wBroWMV1iY1IuosukJdZS687gy30gLCiQ7Doe9mJFgFdhL4P5d27fUlhcvdA3R4LwVhe7lDKkMjUAmbDqf85Z9nJfO7E84WK8KlQJ/s1600-h/tomball.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446352001130643586" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuUEYCJSkBqzeroPfOzPGelsCaZhsv0a6LKWbb-Z4wBroWMV1iY1IuosukJdZS687gy30gLCiQ7Doe9mJFgFdhL4P5d27fUlhcvdA3R4LwVhe7lDKkMjUAmbDqf85Z9nJfO7E84WK8KlQJ/s320/tomball.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br />I am very pleased with my final tombs and enjoyed the process of texturing them. The main point which I would improve if I had been given more time would have been to create skeletons or armour to place inside the tombs to show who inhabited them. I did place a shield with the English cross into one of them to show that there were people inside, and I suppose this adds to the mystery as where has this person/ being gone? Who were they? I really would have liked to create a skeleton as this would have stretched my modelling skills more, yet towards the end of the term I wanted to focus on my water and fire animation effects and making sure all of the components worked together. <br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKysdVXA1dcn9rn3FUAlHBA6-_A-Ig45O-yd1_nlmIujIpQ8l9ojmw64uuERcpQEJ_Tl332tSlIKQw0SlNhUYJogbtUWVtocneGPsX0tgWUEy1OD2mdJ-6OYduapL7oz4Jbl69ClTyfrov/s1600-h/tombclose.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446351996597902802" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKysdVXA1dcn9rn3FUAlHBA6-_A-Ig45O-yd1_nlmIujIpQ8l9ojmw64uuERcpQEJ_Tl332tSlIKQw0SlNhUYJogbtUWVtocneGPsX0tgWUEy1OD2mdJ-6OYduapL7oz4Jbl69ClTyfrov/s320/tombclose.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Here is the final model for my Excalibur sword. I have used my images from the British Museum to make the sword look more magical. I also added my symbols from my tombs down the centre to show style consistency and it was also designed to show that the sword was the link between all of the elements, kind of like the Ultimate Power or Fifth Element. I wanted to look into Medieval colour more so read on this website about what colours meant in their time. I wanted to utlise colours that seemed powerful and for people of high standing, so I used red and blue as rubies and sapphires to decorate the sword. The main reason I added these details was to make it seem more ornate like the Bishop Staff from the British Museum.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQjIOoxYk8gn0XIB4MjB8f40q3BnK31RWvClYGHBrxHJshUtDhN4RXNTBFxDPUK2amB_x8sqtJsmoXy1Fvognt6cu97DJjyWMfWDvE7Fb7ZlO4_UtfMUxPmjYm_iXBvEQbyrMzb9QVG_Em/s1600-h/excalibur.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446351990890334466" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQjIOoxYk8gn0XIB4MjB8f40q3BnK31RWvClYGHBrxHJshUtDhN4RXNTBFxDPUK2amB_x8sqtJsmoXy1Fvognt6cu97DJjyWMfWDvE7Fb7ZlO4_UtfMUxPmjYm_iXBvEQbyrMzb9QVG_Em/s320/excalibur.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The King Arthur seal is also part of the handle of the sword to make it seem as though it was made for him. I tried a few different backgrounds for the seal, including the blue sapphire but you could not see the black outline of the drawing easily and it got lost in the pattern. I also tried just black and white but felt it looked just too much like a normal drawing and not a ‘real’ texture. I finally decided to use a yellow sapphire background as this combined both the precious stone idea as well as giving a nice colour that suited the rest of the gold sword.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0oEcQ8sy1tHm1410HcU58uHj-f_J3kC_zOE-c-fsZPmAck_onw5sIMAPq8BtW4A2I5WLO3TU6zSOhQSsOfhvfeTC25etIqF0OjEoP9x5KGwyDiAzR7XTUAEwEmqr0YTuh__NqOk6oHZuJ/s1600-h/excalibur2.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446351985857426674" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0oEcQ8sy1tHm1410HcU58uHj-f_J3kC_zOE-c-fsZPmAck_onw5sIMAPq8BtW4A2I5WLO3TU6zSOhQSsOfhvfeTC25etIqF0OjEoP9x5KGwyDiAzR7XTUAEwEmqr0YTuh__NqOk6oHZuJ/s320/excalibur2.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixSnXtH-IAAi4vy71AG_J0Q5vLd7SEARRoR-TTEGUt2t7uaOqqxgiRrdaWTLm9cSiCr4gHnwypDTSk4uxDc9d50n-1F8rXDJCCwknCSe4HVRdsPy2s0L5xu6ANrM9EpFcxCyuUP2Y3pK-5/s1600-h/excalibur3.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446351980944496802" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEixSnXtH-IAAi4vy71AG_J0Q5vLd7SEARRoR-TTEGUt2t7uaOqqxgiRrdaWTLm9cSiCr4gHnwypDTSk4uxDc9d50n-1F8rXDJCCwknCSe4HVRdsPy2s0L5xu6ANrM9EpFcxCyuUP2Y3pK-5/s320/excalibur3.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-71704723153950421432010-03-08T11:41:00.000-08:002010-03-08T11:44:49.986-08:00Facebook Chat<a class="GBThreadMessageRow_AuthorLink" href="http://www.facebook.com/lydia.fabian">Lydia Fabian</a> January 22 at 11:05am <a href="http://www.facebook.com/gigaboxx/dialog/MessageComposer.php?thread=1288574806737&msg_id=0&id=561890022" rel="dialog-post">Reply</a><br />heyy everyone.. hope you guys enjoyed exhibition yesterday and it was inspiring..just thought if you take a look at the group blog there are the rochester pics on there and i for some reason instead of drawing ruins on a mound .. went for a cliff coast kinda thing. check out my blog theres pics which show EXACTLY what i mean on therewhat do you guys think we should have done by monday? Sam if possible could you email Andi and Hayley what's been modelled so far, maybe they can get a rough idea of the shape it's taking. Also like Lydia said check out her team blog post to think more about purpose ideas and my picture of the layout; should give you a rough idea of the structure. Of course you can change the bits you don't like.We might have to change stuff, but i don't think that's important. Once we're clear about the narrative it'll all come together even if we do have less time cos it'll be a better idea, which is better than spending more time on a pants idea. Can't polish a turd. Also about the orbs, another idea was having them as glowing butterflies or fireflies but again, what they are depends on what the purpose of whole thing is so if you think of more ideas post em. The stories about it seem a bit vague and open to interpretation. If that's the case why don't we have the main character as king arthur, who's come to this island in search of the sword. As he arrives on the island we could have Andi's idea of the comparison of how it looked according to rumour (which is why he has travelled there) and it's actual ruined image. In pictures of the myth it often shows the lady of the lake presenting the sword to Arthur from the water like in the link. Why don't we have a similar image of that but instead of the lake it's presented from water in the fountain at the top of castle.Alternatively it might be quite cool (and if you don't want to deal with water effects) to have Hayley's statue idea, but of the lady, embedded in the epic tree holding the sword out for Arthur to take.As far as the castle's purpose is concerned, it doesn't look well fortified in the way that other castles are because it was never intended to fend off invaders, which explains why it looks more decorative - it's purpose is to house the legendary sword so it's not conventional in that sense and we can get away with our uncastle-like-castle.On his way up to the top arthur could see a load of references to the King arthur legend, i'm not sure exactly what they are but, we could do some research into it. I like the idea of using sound to lure the person around the grounds, calling him up to the sword. I remember Andi saying Lydia created some cool ghost like voices using some music software? That might be an idea.I realise these are all the things that you guys were all thinking about anyway, like sword in the stone and stuff i'm just trying to bring it together. It's a bit cheesy but solid and would be happy to do it.However i am still having trouble thinking of a potential client for the project - is it a level for a game, educational, maybe we're designing an area/ride for a theme park? Get back to me.Man i just wrote an essay. I also have some images that need to be scanned (concepts and my research) that I will add at a later date.<br /><br />I am happy with how my modelling is going, although I feel I have become more of a modeller and texturer during the project, which is not really what I want to do in the future (even though I have enjoyed it).<br /><br />I will now push on with the fire and water and make sure they look ready for us all to render and composite the piece together.Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-14735759953772331112010-03-02T06:19:00.001-08:002010-03-02T06:39:14.284-08:00Modelling Update: BoatThe boat has gone some big changes since my last posts.<br /><br />I started by looking at the lamp or torch that would be at the front of it, so I started modelling a candle as seen below. I did however decide against it in the end as I was having trouble following the tutorial about the flame, and I also feel that it wouldve been unnecessary detail that would not have been shown up enough in the final renders. Furthermore, it probably would not have given off enough light in the opening sequence where the boat is still in the ocean and that is the only light source.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ37N5sgIz1zU8guh8h_8MS4QKX5ZmINXUMbYlO86jnHt20zMBlGj9XjPSF3YCidly2sKvvK8OpumXiXXYv1ZPI1eljxEfNlnpscOFkgyiVukcYNgvn_N5AzUntBWBkJabQHocH1W3EhCE/s1600-h/candle.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444043088640789922" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ37N5sgIz1zU8guh8h_8MS4QKX5ZmINXUMbYlO86jnHt20zMBlGj9XjPSF3YCidly2sKvvK8OpumXiXXYv1ZPI1eljxEfNlnpscOFkgyiVukcYNgvn_N5AzUntBWBkJabQHocH1W3EhCE/s320/candle.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />So... I went on to modelling a lamp using curves and revolve. The light is emitted from a layered shader and is quite bright so that it will be easily seen and light up the boat and the surrounding environment. I used a shader to colour it to give it a worn look as though it has a history or that Arthur has been on a journey to get to this point.<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3Razy9ze_0u0r_zEoHHh9g7zmAEDYufXAwrvP5wZZOpPtI42pAcGjfQHn9VllRnDbgifMYiHyLbPeflmqGFDwdnV5k7Eh7703Qb-RLzMjxMhyK2z0hx2GaTMXHRylgBBUGmeWIZyEZtEd/s1600-h/lamp.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444043080879089154" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3Razy9ze_0u0r_zEoHHh9g7zmAEDYufXAwrvP5wZZOpPtI42pAcGjfQHn9VllRnDbgifMYiHyLbPeflmqGFDwdnV5k7Eh7703Qb-RLzMjxMhyK2z0hx2GaTMXHRylgBBUGmeWIZyEZtEd/s320/lamp.jpg" border="0" /></a> Next to the finished lamp are the initial shaoes I used without texture and also the image plane I used as inspiration.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUJAwMTmXtCMKzhj21uz-cesSMFdtkCaax-1SaWxpKS_Krp8gYJ2QbKeipetVuhQq9G9_APqwXOtx4p5kw5z_8r9kS8VGZ8iwoNIblaWwpPk6qVlwP6Afj2YyuSljCisFuXd6_eWfbuJIL/s1600-h/lamp_02.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444043077871696322" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUJAwMTmXtCMKzhj21uz-cesSMFdtkCaax-1SaWxpKS_Krp8gYJ2QbKeipetVuhQq9G9_APqwXOtx4p5kw5z_8r9kS8VGZ8iwoNIblaWwpPk6qVlwP6Afj2YyuSljCisFuXd6_eWfbuJIL/s320/lamp_02.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div>One major problem that I had for a while was the texturing of the boat. I tried so many different images of wood, wood shaders etc but could not find the one that looked in the right style or suited the boat for quite some time.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0lpaZHq6v1EJ3656gFOeA_zLdN-fXYilyGVo-oHM7rXhMwjBClpVtbpRsBuzqex7MJQ2YNdrgTVG22Kl_oOrHiplxf3EBa9qRt6RFqzSR0SzEvnZkvG-eET43XkwoYXozeJxB1jARu26N/s1600-h/Wood_Texture_Stock_by_digital_amphetamine.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444043073712246434" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0lpaZHq6v1EJ3656gFOeA_zLdN-fXYilyGVo-oHM7rXhMwjBClpVtbpRsBuzqex7MJQ2YNdrgTVG22Kl_oOrHiplxf3EBa9qRt6RFqzSR0SzEvnZkvG-eET43XkwoYXozeJxB1jARu26N/s320/Wood_Texture_Stock_by_digital_amphetamine.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />I finally found this image on the internet as tried it on my boat. It was very successful so I took it into Photoshop (the second image down) and used the Palette Knife (I believe) to make it look more akin to the Star Wars Clone Wars style.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibtR_pi4EqkBMx7a0Y2kzi0jJBmHN7kDcuqahT3VyRk_ehqeQhWNsQohYt6CHvMBg0m58xTCscqW2OVrTijM9mAqFTO4P8SnzPqTeUOymB55I8x75lSv7_6kT9xLPGBHcmfOTfS1dxY5h0/s1600-h/1086380_old_wood_texture.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444043071980536434" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 224px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibtR_pi4EqkBMx7a0Y2kzi0jJBmHN7kDcuqahT3VyRk_ehqeQhWNsQohYt6CHvMBg0m58xTCscqW2OVrTijM9mAqFTO4P8SnzPqTeUOymB55I8x75lSv7_6kT9xLPGBHcmfOTfS1dxY5h0/s320/1086380_old_wood_texture.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div> </div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8no_ovVPog0gF2KAmg37XsFZwtEf2RNXcAdCGOyBDL1Zbkyu4RXnFFom1Z0Rh094t9qDjHpxlYClYG-xgeuBlZXbaU3Ke6W3a0slzegvWksFdUOCCRePJeZe456okV0R3U0eSHeDCeigo/s1600-h/1086380_old_wood_texturek.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444041517083003986" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 224px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 300px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8no_ovVPog0gF2KAmg37XsFZwtEf2RNXcAdCGOyBDL1Zbkyu4RXnFFom1Z0Rh094t9qDjHpxlYClYG-xgeuBlZXbaU3Ke6W3a0slzegvWksFdUOCCRePJeZe456okV0R3U0eSHeDCeigo/s320/1086380_old_wood_texturek.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The shape of the boat has also changed. I tried lots of different shaders and textures (for example photographs of ocean as a blinn and reducing the transparency), but I found that the Ocean shader in Maya looked the best. My only problem with it is the reflectivity at the moment so I shall have to experiement more.<br /><br />When I imported the water into the Castle file I found that it jumps for no apparent reason:<br /><br /><br /><object height="320" width="400"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9509164&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1"><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9509164&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="320"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/9509164">Water Environment</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user3184034">Hayley Allen</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.</p><br /><br />So I started again in the same file and found that it did not do it this time. I have not made the water move much as we decided it is going to be a reasonably calm moonlit night, so rough seas would not work. I will make my boat move slightly in the water but not too much as it will not match its surroundings.<br /><br />However, when I zoomed into Lydia's section the water looks more blocky. I don't know if the team wants it kept this way or if not I will make another plane for the inside so that detail is not lost. This should be easy to achieve quickly and will give us alternatives of what looks best.<br /><br /><object width="400" height="300"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9855359&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9855359&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/9855359">Water inside</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user3184034">Hayley Allen</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-15180885875976425342010-03-02T05:59:00.000-08:002010-03-02T06:55:48.517-08:00Fire Trail Breakthrough<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dy9Z6vdT_98FIcyTLHcHc5FOp08KDPxVT6gxiZLQW6x-LOYL6nytLfs5nNSB4I6e9hay0PIvIa8bCCOj2JyHQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe><p></p><br /><p>I could not find any tutorials about creating a flame trail across so I had a bit of a play on Maya and this is my first breakthrough. Obviously the intensity of the flame can be changed when in the environment, but I feel confident that I can make it work when Sam and Andi have finished their modelling of the central room. :)</p><br /><p></p><br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwJNqTG58fuO6CRhS2MTI5tOQfce-2R-hkeaKlrnTcpg-GSRPoyPVgnGQ-7b8S6IkGudoB1Eqk99ip3ypJjKOPS2kwkOijy41TqJgl8ATOk6gz4jiV0LU92egAaj3swbZFmd4QsXAKJYfM/s1600-h/fire+across+floor.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444048560060337138" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhwJNqTG58fuO6CRhS2MTI5tOQfce-2R-hkeaKlrnTcpg-GSRPoyPVgnGQ-7b8S6IkGudoB1Eqk99ip3ypJjKOPS2kwkOijy41TqJgl8ATOk6gz4jiV0LU92egAaj3swbZFmd4QsXAKJYfM/s320/fire+across+floor.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><p><br /><p></p><br /><p></p><br /><p>Update:</p><br /><p>Ok, so after receiving the overall environment I have worked on adding the fire to it. I did this by basically creating a cube, extruding it over and over and then using Dynamics to create the fir emitter. This is still in development, obviously the extruded parts will be hidden on a different layer so that only the fire will be seen. I can model some kind of trough for the fire or leave it plain depending what the group would like. Also it gives some idea of the light given from the flam, I can make them more intense in order for a brighter light if necessary, or even if you would just like the flame to be higher.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMZTJnVp0NM-VLg79G7xOPTvRbxhSh_zXmAmJkrcVWpZcplS8GdSm0PCo9cSf3Quk62IH5tQny63WrbTAAYW1qQ9uqeH2qb4znR4lFWwVKbgZPYsvs9zYkBpPwYpfD9_K-JKvoTGGbWUk/s1600-h/fire+across+floor.jpg"></a> </p><br /><p></p><br /><p></p><br /><p></p><br /><p>The video below shows the movement of the flame going around the water. This can be faster and slower, but I did not want to make it too fast so that it does not look unnatural and also so that we can get a decent couple of shots of it moving round the room and Arthur reacting to it.Hope this ok guys and what you wanted :)<br /><br /><br /><br /><object height="300" width="400"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true"><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9480146&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1"><br /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=9480146&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="300"></embed></object></p><br /><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/9480146">Fire Test 001 CVA Environment</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user3184034">Hayley Allen</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com/">Vimeo</a>.</p>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-27243705190118516602010-03-02T05:24:00.001-08:002010-03-02T05:58:52.658-08:00British Museum<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSz_jg94VT9dnpzb4-u71cA7H5Ij1d8dACqz8_zL8cBq-cKlIpN-wNjL9-UJybMCEAHSsdRMvk8wMtC4RldUcRveXIBAsKJ4f69v0izddV4LRV4_xkaWbWyPgOJ3ZuXYPxHVF1PwpgMMWF/s1600-h/DSC06374.JPG"><span style="color:#000000;">This first image is not Medieval, yet I liked the way that the statue was standing at the top of the stairs, I thought we could use it as a camera shot as she is quite foreboding here and you have no choice but to walk up to her.</span><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444033506988134402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiSz_jg94VT9dnpzb4-u71cA7H5Ij1d8dACqz8_zL8cBq-cKlIpN-wNjL9-UJybMCEAHSsdRMvk8wMtC4RldUcRveXIBAsKJ4f69v0izddV4LRV4_xkaWbWyPgOJ3ZuXYPxHVF1PwpgMMWF/s320/DSC06374.JPG" border="0" /></a> Afew wall hangings telling stories. The first is early Medieval yet the second is from a much later period. I thought the oversized pot could be lit by Arthur when it is placed in the centre of the dock area. Arthur will have to negotiate this aswell to reach his goal so does he jump across it? Does he stand in the water? Or neither?<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAQJ3TFkbuFfyqwrEVP2hgmxvW0kzkQHUUh2PUNXCaG8ZQcvqVpr1HfAHcyKpL4O1fEWTQWb6GfUyJSh4G0tDTkRXO9ZfnA8uPkqux-Qovxq-z0zJRVqaZKaKIuRi2sBLLhfJ4wjfrrT0r/s1600-h/DSC06439.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444028721802734050" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAQJ3TFkbuFfyqwrEVP2hgmxvW0kzkQHUUh2PUNXCaG8ZQcvqVpr1HfAHcyKpL4O1fEWTQWb6GfUyJSh4G0tDTkRXO9ZfnA8uPkqux-Qovxq-z0zJRVqaZKaKIuRi2sBLLhfJ4wjfrrT0r/s320/DSC06439.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-43611236951323963172010-03-02T05:05:00.001-08:002010-03-02T05:14:58.418-08:00British Museum (Sword focus)I went to the British Museum a few weeks ago to gain a further insight into colours and objects from the time period. A selection of photos that took my interest for the group are to follow, yet these were specifically aimed towards my Excalibur design. The sowrd I have now is quite basic, so I will use these images to enhance it.<br /><br />Firstly, this is the top of a bishop's staff from the Medieval ages. I love how intricate and ornate it it, and it gives a sense of high stature. The gold colour is definitely something I will use for Excalibur.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm1E2LvwIOd6O3sW_tfbJcYWuTR7_aY28_88PlxYgTg4GuuNwBdz1Q82VxVDyygOMZO4iY_wFj1iMMWEkpJwInu5ynE2ruXFIRKJ_L6ms_XqA5N4Ffq8q4wxq4YKPwt8B3HfNV4rga68CJ/s1600-h/DSC06392.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444023056279680898" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgm1E2LvwIOd6O3sW_tfbJcYWuTR7_aY28_88PlxYgTg4GuuNwBdz1Q82VxVDyygOMZO4iY_wFj1iMMWEkpJwInu5ynE2ruXFIRKJ_L6ms_XqA5N4Ffq8q4wxq4YKPwt8B3HfNV4rga68CJ/s320/DSC06392.JPG" border="0" /></a><br />I also found this sword very interesting. It says in its description that the symbols on the sword have an unknown meaning, and I would like to use this in my work too. I think this will give the sword a bit of mystery or depth of meaning, so I can use this design in a creative way.<br /><br /><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR0jdnU3rDDq49BM6IgNHwRKZSX9rPdm3qIKzsvddWTgZY4Z6mkEnUYlqFEMU-ewAUhSlHM0oeFt7xPNRK7y3HcO1oi2pZXhH4IpOrl4TwrDj_UNmP3LXaipkLMV6O7M7w7lv4BLIzxaLD/s1600-h/DSC06397.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444023047463778754" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgR0jdnU3rDDq49BM6IgNHwRKZSX9rPdm3qIKzsvddWTgZY4Z6mkEnUYlqFEMU-ewAUhSlHM0oeFt7xPNRK7y3HcO1oi2pZXhH4IpOrl4TwrDj_UNmP3LXaipkLMV6O7M7w7lv4BLIzxaLD/s320/DSC06397.JPG" border="0" /></a> </p><p>Close up of the symbols:<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Jn60F9qZ9Y8Or81ip98T0pcSwKi4scyv9-RaM8nGrGRcFjNMB0pDB__gEJLPuDbJ8_sjGx0Ny7hwvHTbwDvXyLMHR-UPyP4jhB8PzRI22DZoQAsDbzidb8eHZCuCNyh8lZ6AKTzulzQm/s1600-h/DSC06400.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5444023045785952978" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2Jn60F9qZ9Y8Or81ip98T0pcSwKi4scyv9-RaM8nGrGRcFjNMB0pDB__gEJLPuDbJ8_sjGx0Ny7hwvHTbwDvXyLMHR-UPyP4jhB8PzRI22DZoQAsDbzidb8eHZCuCNyh8lZ6AKTzulzQm/s320/DSC06400.JPG" border="0" /></a> </p>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-77973151259137077202010-02-11T03:28:00.000-08:002010-02-11T03:35:33.456-08:00King Arthur Seal<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioKE3_JY_LXsQRWm76s5xmt3ksNotLtMhL-vnYwoVFw_uXRc7pKDR3R7Y0RHarLef68ptv7BEnIIoMoDwj-73wBQQrtEGWABgBzHotR4s2fXCE4L3gfEqQsCxuLXT5Ok9Pd7RleDVCd8hV/s1600-h/DSC06455.JPG"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5436947351657439858" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioKE3_JY_LXsQRWm76s5xmt3ksNotLtMhL-vnYwoVFw_uXRc7pKDR3R7Y0RHarLef68ptv7BEnIIoMoDwj-73wBQQrtEGWABgBzHotR4s2fXCE4L3gfEqQsCxuLXT5Ok9Pd7RleDVCd8hV/s320/DSC06455.JPG" border="0" /></a><br /><div>I drew this based on the seal of King Arthur, which I thought I could add a frame to in order to make it a proper seal for our castle. As we are telling the story of how King Arthur receives Excalibur from the Lady in the Lake, I decided the first thing to model was the sword. The second image shows my original sword which is very basic and could just be used as a prop littering the floor for example, where as the first I have added to to make it more akin to Excalibur. I will research more into the sword for the different looks people have given it in the past and how I can utilise their ideas to make mine better.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-38zSH0h7VeW7ROTBnLb5KXQ79zz5HElrbcC7UbKfBf-Sz267EqDuvwNQJdoHNhne_eA3JFu7T8WHcWUvZbDeB-OOopFjdZDu7eS9HDpo1aueFLcdZPvMokSWz3ebemlYbSAB1H9g2tpk/s1600-h/sword_002.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434792889866533378" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-38zSH0h7VeW7ROTBnLb5KXQ79zz5HElrbcC7UbKfBf-Sz267EqDuvwNQJdoHNhne_eA3JFu7T8WHcWUvZbDeB-OOopFjdZDu7eS9HDpo1aueFLcdZPvMokSWz3ebemlYbSAB1H9g2tpk/s320/sword_002.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI1yQEiU0fLTn_8XRKVure7_VFvH6ohUb7p2zwp4Gsjg30teuYEecOmRVMTS89Wy0oC3cza53Gj-iaaIWWs1ppSfusnFAEBqL8ZjOQ7hZBWLoIgxWB6gD-VnNdhUG27j18kn1q3WUjkWWN/s1600-h/sword_attempt_1.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434792885839385074" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhI1yQEiU0fLTn_8XRKVure7_VFvH6ohUb7p2zwp4Gsjg30teuYEecOmRVMTS89Wy0oC3cza53Gj-iaaIWWs1ppSfusnFAEBqL8ZjOQ7hZBWLoIgxWB6gD-VnNdhUG27j18kn1q3WUjkWWN/s320/sword_attempt_1.jpg" border="0" /></a> I also modelled an axe to populate the environment, it could be used by the character to cut something in the environment or be held by a knight in armour to make them look more dangerous.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH5q5JLAkit19aPAaaHA27gaY4UesBL5m10WAsF7PAdK7ojfl3et89-YqlvFvz292srFQGoK8ARLVMqbfux9hJtVKOr0DxmEBRl7yHgZQIl5kXx05WtU3XiDF0iA0tBJVxktMD9sXgD_ra/s1600-h/axe_attempt.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434792878590424178" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiH5q5JLAkit19aPAaaHA27gaY4UesBL5m10WAsF7PAdK7ojfl3et89-YqlvFvz292srFQGoK8ARLVMqbfux9hJtVKOr0DxmEBRl7yHgZQIl5kXx05WtU3XiDF0iA0tBJVxktMD9sXgD_ra/s320/axe_attempt.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />Arthur is going to enter the Island on a small wooden boat, and this is my first model for it. I created this Flag using Maya nCloth, it took a while as Maya crashed and was very flow when the flag started moving. The first shows no wind or air pressure, so the flag just drops, which could be good for summery conditions.</p><p><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dyZIjA9g8rY-BpybV9pIM6xAGA6DhhbtgW3mk6Dn33TSeWboiB8UR-4qsrkO53unR-8VY9bZjvk1c5WtG9pXg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></p><p> </p><p>The second one here shows the flag going crazy after applying a bit of pressure and wind. I am going to experiement more with this to get the right level for the different conditions, and try to make the flag rougher and it not a clean rectangular shape to show age and history. We have decided to include 2d characters in our 3d environment, which lead us to a sort of Lady of the Lake, so a sort of ghostly presence within the layout.<br /><br />We are creating a Medieval environment with a slight fantasy theme to it so that it does not have to be specific to one sect of the time. I will be using the Knights Templar for inspiration, yet not sticking precisely to them.<br /><br />The overall idea for our environment now is a castle on a small island surrounded by water. The castle is partly in ruins giving a idea of the overall structure yet with bits fallen apart. We are undecided on whether it will be raining or bright sunshine yet this can be decided during the concept stage.<br /><br />We are also going to look into the artistic style of Star Wars The Clone Wars, where the CG almost looks painted, as this will fit in with the 2D characters that will populate the environment.<br /><br />I will now continue to change my Concept Art to reflect the new ideas.Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-77883552205621036182010-01-20T02:53:00.001-08:002010-01-20T02:59:11.763-08:00Animation?<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyf13_eQhzXEBIJ6e9GQ4sDoo-DxJ2JtfdrOirHzZ_AzdsrxbamGkL-FwbALcb1BPSP_G87eY_Lis26EoHnijs-rAcnVASszbIlgDXz3g2daGY0Dmoq7F8qKYFc6W9_ZD367_qiEeDPF1T/s1600-h/rain.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5428774038660180354" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjyf13_eQhzXEBIJ6e9GQ4sDoo-DxJ2JtfdrOirHzZ_AzdsrxbamGkL-FwbALcb1BPSP_G87eY_Lis26EoHnijs-rAcnVASszbIlgDXz3g2daGY0Dmoq7F8qKYFc6W9_ZD367_qiEeDPF1T/s320/rain.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div></div><br /><div>After discussing our project our group decided to create a change in weather and change in seasons, so started looking into weather effects as I want to animate the piece. Firstly the Tower of London obviously has the features of a castle with the turrets and I particularly like the rounded shape of this end, as it could have spiral stairs added to it or interesting features due to the rounded shape and we would have to think about how items would be placed within a rounded room. The windows are all quite small because castles are made to protect those inside and keep people out. These windows also have a rounded top which fits in the style of this part of the castle.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP7GCf6jNpB1uIPLmZytqwvOOR5s96Br8kjAVSYyqiTwh-4jKi9ZU_8UDogvk5cdjBhP_RAsWT3IsXi33USfOa9wRcwLVAEAzCxIPtuh38kn2nwwGKBckJsFnjo2hSnOv-eBZ4E7U3KMsW/s1600-h/16.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426589015819632818" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP7GCf6jNpB1uIPLmZytqwvOOR5s96Br8kjAVSYyqiTwh-4jKi9ZU_8UDogvk5cdjBhP_RAsWT3IsXi33USfOa9wRcwLVAEAzCxIPtuh38kn2nwwGKBckJsFnjo2hSnOv-eBZ4E7U3KMsW/s320/16.bmp" border="0" /></a><br />I took the next two photos to look at similar types of buildings, again with the spires. I like the rounded shape of the Westminster Abbey arches more than the bridge. The windows are again rounded at the top, and as they are quite long they will let plenty of light inside.<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhTah8FtxPIdWHrCAmlMWyrkiVe_454_P6d70YiIup2-knR5dipmnaMfHjapTVOk8ZxzKMFhRla4vL8Ffvrt54-ZMn1rZPAmmTer82_AuzZHombHWBl1Q1ZAhpyDu31Dnr3WvYEg-h5ThW/s1600-h/15.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426589010464587394" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhTah8FtxPIdWHrCAmlMWyrkiVe_454_P6d70YiIup2-knR5dipmnaMfHjapTVOk8ZxzKMFhRla4vL8Ffvrt54-ZMn1rZPAmmTer82_AuzZHombHWBl1Q1ZAhpyDu31Dnr3WvYEg-h5ThW/s320/15.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlXebS-4gpVIIG5zmgTt6Uy3xJsvezE9du0fLr5BPgdPOKkhWz1QZEBgtnnw7OVDCVXAFLLjBY9yg8AozC04Hn4U1m4zvKBbUWYIBlxQgdTldr_WBTuVnVM8ceqXoI6oJtqRQZcJSW70V8/s1600-h/10.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426589008971824562" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 299px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhlXebS-4gpVIIG5zmgTt6Uy3xJsvezE9du0fLr5BPgdPOKkhWz1QZEBgtnnw7OVDCVXAFLLjBY9yg8AozC04Hn4U1m4zvKBbUWYIBlxQgdTldr_WBTuVnVM8ceqXoI6oJtqRQZcJSW70V8/s320/10.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br />This figure is quite foreboding as it was part of the London Dungeon exterior, yet it fits in with the period and again has the rounded frame to it. I also like the lighting around the hood as it gives mystery to the figure.<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil9SV2Ffc2PBTLF8Hdp4kBYeJ5Ifwmne9Ks6YdIZ8N6cgVHIrHKrQN0ewXMLKN8uMptdE-e4P4cJY56QsM5L1SiVGTkduRDrMcPUAyspgy54jD-aJfC6eTqnyd-xrwCQxmjC_6A2fWhFA9/s1600-h/17.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426589004626615282" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 240px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEil9SV2Ffc2PBTLF8Hdp4kBYeJ5Ifwmne9Ks6YdIZ8N6cgVHIrHKrQN0ewXMLKN8uMptdE-e4P4cJY56QsM5L1SiVGTkduRDrMcPUAyspgy54jD-aJfC6eTqnyd-xrwCQxmjC_6A2fWhFA9/s320/17.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br />Finally, this image was taken in Covent Garden at Christmas time when they had this light display. I really like this as it looks rather magical and would fit into the magical theme of a castle. The lights also moved so this could form part of the animation for my piece. I also like the way that it is lighter around the bottom by the normal lamps lighting the walkways and walls, yet the darker night sky is filled with the 'prettier' lights.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjure4b8hhfqwI2edRRVnbn4HzLMsdqFHttwze7y5-8TXxDijio1QKd4_bx9Z1EjxBxZk6gk4cxGmJMK3-96phXg-0_iZ4ohyphenhyphenlNNaIfnN0bjLisAL0bpxphmvX0ujKVUfvfTpL57Kv7aUK9/s1600-h/19.bmp"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426588997972798338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 240px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjure4b8hhfqwI2edRRVnbn4HzLMsdqFHttwze7y5-8TXxDijio1QKd4_bx9Z1EjxBxZk6gk4cxGmJMK3-96phXg-0_iZ4ohyphenhyphenlNNaIfnN0bjLisAL0bpxphmvX0ujKVUfvfTpL57Kv7aUK9/s320/19.bmp" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div>Images of London landmarks that could be used as inspiration to our project, more to come and my thoughts soon</div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-37329496447060533802010-01-14T05:22:00.001-08:002010-03-08T13:05:23.696-08:00Initial Concepts<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYIRCR1lWG_OZNIvI-QHAQzt33-v_GVVTvBOvu8nD1G8Ckd9K3CBBC8RAfIykn-iE2lSou9B2bz229AkgyRgMuQGP0h3uGqlPcpXXyJCasx5eyYgc7vxsj2_SesiVlX7s7jM2bpVrRiYV/s1600-h/scan0005.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5446371806038463986" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyYIRCR1lWG_OZNIvI-QHAQzt33-v_GVVTvBOvu8nD1G8Ckd9K3CBBC8RAfIykn-iE2lSou9B2bz229AkgyRgMuQGP0h3uGqlPcpXXyJCasx5eyYgc7vxsj2_SesiVlX7s7jM2bpVrRiYV/s320/scan0005.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div>The first drawing is based on part of Tutbury Castle and kind of combines both an interior and exterior due to the castle being mostly destoyed.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguCXOI1lLbHFxWCx9HuXsjUNTZ8JWmb2IGpvTTvfZ_VzvWhyw87zMOQNSMXNZpNE21oy6r6njyd5-BNX1Gt1rKW56owR6BRJLYfFKl8aG3PD3L7xyFrqXZUv3g1XUr6B7mjUuCvuFJDf1b/s1600-h/scan0041.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426585650584391538" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguCXOI1lLbHFxWCx9HuXsjUNTZ8JWmb2IGpvTTvfZ_VzvWhyw87zMOQNSMXNZpNE21oy6r6njyd5-BNX1Gt1rKW56owR6BRJLYfFKl8aG3PD3L7xyFrqXZUv3g1XUr6B7mjUuCvuFJDf1b/s320/scan0041.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div>This image was just a quick sketch of a possible character as the animation could be part of a battle, the weapons and shields and even the bodies could be additional characters or props that characters interact with.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-QRqtqT0BBS5215rvXBf2jHieTcASLR-QTG_YDZ3W8HX5wSSFnQU1pxmk6Ng5W4Ctynk0jgTuUl6tGRGO-ZCE7u2NoNPM303h3o5zG7JRTmaFZ0guUMlwlvnTKVLXnSPeAbhLbXntC-bQ/s1600-h/scan0042.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426585641498285218" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg-QRqtqT0BBS5215rvXBf2jHieTcASLR-QTG_YDZ3W8HX5wSSFnQU1pxmk6Ng5W4Ctynk0jgTuUl6tGRGO-ZCE7u2NoNPM303h3o5zG7JRTmaFZ0guUMlwlvnTKVLXnSPeAbhLbXntC-bQ/s320/scan0042.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-43917399133559693852010-01-13T02:29:00.000-08:002010-01-13T02:48:09.899-08:00'Destroyed Beauty'<u><span style="color:#0066cc;"></span></u>After my initial research, I continued to look at the 'Destroyed Beauty' theme from the Gears of War scan. This made me think of two pieces in particular: the beginning of Wall-E and Bioshock.<br /><br />The first scans are Wall-E concepts. I like the first scan due to the signage, although it would not be used as heavily in a castle setting it does show a sense of history and a sense that people have lived there even though it is not desolate and destoyed.<br /><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXlnch0Pt65939GIAKmR5M2dg9XktRa4NiM7iphAYiat-4fSvkfZT0KzQVlfNtUtW_hivYViDwPwHrLU458Ekntjd7jf5JC4MzXo6l1WKaOoipkuHN144LF-s1yPuMG3wMlkMp5Dzc2KAO/s1600-h/scan0008.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426171758038734226" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhXlnch0Pt65939GIAKmR5M2dg9XktRa4NiM7iphAYiat-4fSvkfZT0KzQVlfNtUtW_hivYViDwPwHrLU458Ekntjd7jf5JC4MzXo6l1WKaOoipkuHN144LF-s1yPuMG3wMlkMp5Dzc2KAO/s320/scan0008.jpg" border="0" /></a> The second image shows how the rubbish has now become part of the architecture of the environment, and how the current affairs/ bad times have taken over the landscape. There is a sense of what there was before yet it is hidden in this new layer.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisV1xe8Nx6sIEe7ZWIcOMv3gSQ2A7KuwDYo6l3c1ZwJ0czfC0omATUE30hVMDG5YcdqLbXOfG5QUdJW4ae8zgHzDxB-TTJ4WurJ8lqOa-QGMQOkgCmGO-wyc16VRIqaZ5JBTDofCQS_DzJ/s1600-h/scan0006.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426171751664156402" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEisV1xe8Nx6sIEe7ZWIcOMv3gSQ2A7KuwDYo6l3c1ZwJ0czfC0omATUE30hVMDG5YcdqLbXOfG5QUdJW4ae8zgHzDxB-TTJ4WurJ8lqOa-QGMQOkgCmGO-wyc16VRIqaZ5JBTDofCQS_DzJ/s320/scan0006.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />I then moved onto the internet to look for the Bioshock concepts. The idea behind the game is that Rapture was created to be a haven yet it has become bitter and twisted over time. The locations are grand to show an attempt at a luxurious lifestyle, yet it is crumbling away and falling apart.<br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGIEp7ocIrvzM7SlxAvDi0BA9II1W52EuQyZCQf044Rz9mgvOOdcjE_s6h-4nJJkr7Rphnlus_UafNZRbMy2YZnbZTUmuOyVnynH2TfivZ9sEZX8g3cHLYv2ta5sD3F_rRCjtxTwywbvtJ/s1600-h/bio-environment-19.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426170350829385058" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 256px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhGIEp7ocIrvzM7SlxAvDi0BA9II1W52EuQyZCQf044Rz9mgvOOdcjE_s6h-4nJJkr7Rphnlus_UafNZRbMy2YZnbZTUmuOyVnynH2TfivZ9sEZX8g3cHLYv2ta5sD3F_rRCjtxTwywbvtJ/s320/bio-environment-19.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv1pSnL6B9j6FH2AFFnOMlex38zd-89ICj4m-OizO4qugyP1FI3xzhWGsDlp5Y28bQ4aFM74P7sE-HW3op4OKYPGGPcvhsYY3vTdK7T33eEQ0DI3-pIQNmrPx9A6wLDFfKASmtw7bQe96L/s1600-h/bio-environment-18.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426170351246875058" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 204px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgv1pSnL6B9j6FH2AFFnOMlex38zd-89ICj4m-OizO4qugyP1FI3xzhWGsDlp5Y28bQ4aFM74P7sE-HW3op4OKYPGGPcvhsYY3vTdK7T33eEQ0DI3-pIQNmrPx9A6wLDFfKASmtw7bQe96L/s320/bio-environment-18.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQZOnmoR3qpFo9LmyGzFzo1Y8emyLg3Ii2uBr4XqE2WESeiZJEZbyKzNHdsC7AjXoeV_WjQrUXaEN2L1mYd8Yc2cH-0BAWt4PluoWJYlWlo9owXXn64YZZVDAwuA8F3iyl0st-L8aSSzO4/s1600-h/bio-environment-16.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426170341044551618" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 174px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhQZOnmoR3qpFo9LmyGzFzo1Y8emyLg3Ii2uBr4XqE2WESeiZJEZbyKzNHdsC7AjXoeV_WjQrUXaEN2L1mYd8Yc2cH-0BAWt4PluoWJYlWlo9owXXn64YZZVDAwuA8F3iyl0st-L8aSSzO4/s320/bio-environment-16.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjolNZplgujjOtxLMk9gqC3JTzsWeqaaKy3i-KUk5gmCVNmlufb-cPI0hzb7jDvN0B_nQUvRy_05NbPE7Mrmt73TGO8bk3enPWp2h5BVeMCQE_ETbghOrLkGpc-Svj-6FIF_8aU3fIapI5m/s1600-h/bio-environment-05.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426170344195607282" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 248px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjolNZplgujjOtxLMk9gqC3JTzsWeqaaKy3i-KUk5gmCVNmlufb-cPI0hzb7jDvN0B_nQUvRy_05NbPE7Mrmt73TGO8bk3enPWp2h5BVeMCQE_ETbghOrLkGpc-Svj-6FIF_8aU3fIapI5m/s320/bio-environment-05.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPD7V1vJLxqr5AT2pWkeJ1gSdwR4jWl4e8ePcuLIi8EcKf33J9BpnzWShB8yZms6r29YpwQmUOKg9ZRDQGyLP7uPwSiwuu9k2NU4Cz2V7rVlVVMpSJBSpLuydFOXTnqW6KOwLVaCFrSMfP/s1600-h/bio-environment-04.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426170335352732162" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 246px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPD7V1vJLxqr5AT2pWkeJ1gSdwR4jWl4e8ePcuLIi8EcKf33J9BpnzWShB8yZms6r29YpwQmUOKg9ZRDQGyLP7uPwSiwuu9k2NU4Cz2V7rVlVVMpSJBSpLuydFOXTnqW6KOwLVaCFrSMfP/s320/bio-environment-04.jpg" border="0" /></a> Bioshock the game was reknowned for its level of detail where every poster, sign, placement of objects etc had a story and the history is prevelant throughout. I would love to achieve something similar to this and spend the time to make the textures and items within our environment very detailed so that we can tell a story throughout. These images also show the water coming into the building structure (as it is set underwater), which could be used to show changes over time or weather effects.<br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-51842584196363673732010-01-13T01:57:00.000-08:002010-01-13T02:29:05.058-08:00Research Scans: ArchitectureI started my research looking at different books and magazines for inspiration. I would like to create quite an architectural piece as I have not tried anything like this before and we can make the rooms or even exterior quite atmospheric and foreboding. I like the manor/castle kind of style for this reason. These first few images are from a photography book, I like the amount of detail in the exterior and the sense of large scale and history that comes from this type of building.<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2BmaEy2Y9LY8FL0u1hXZa1XGX1_2XQA3bOJOFHxnPiRNjKIvgQRoXHTtCP-jK1SX4ThqVP_uB5QNUI5KiEvo-5B7AASvt26nWiO333nhmsp-o9qLFPmQbMbYD7BeGxAUbGB4ktuP8Sutm/s1600-h/scan0013.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426166332470713682" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg2BmaEy2Y9LY8FL0u1hXZa1XGX1_2XQA3bOJOFHxnPiRNjKIvgQRoXHTtCP-jK1SX4ThqVP_uB5QNUI5KiEvo-5B7AASvt26nWiO333nhmsp-o9qLFPmQbMbYD7BeGxAUbGB4ktuP8Sutm/s320/scan0013.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKT8kwe8c0XXYne4AvHAagLYWLjE5RmbSlYmLBgsMMz1ZPjdKQEiHBgeXSag2xu6pxvPML_BKE6CevGECQgc3FvzTbYuai29jDmbjW2kvDqWhWUixYpnqXT5NWi4_OsLn3wDhfNJnI5i0s/s1600-h/scan0012.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426166325055645858" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKT8kwe8c0XXYne4AvHAagLYWLjE5RmbSlYmLBgsMMz1ZPjdKQEiHBgeXSag2xu6pxvPML_BKE6CevGECQgc3FvzTbYuai29jDmbjW2kvDqWhWUixYpnqXT5NWi4_OsLn3wDhfNJnI5i0s/s320/scan0012.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghnna22W9-4n5n_0fzN3phMgGUjYAQ0a7OCvWxLcNz4xeULcb_7Y4zaxkw8baNY5pFfi5g4CfKZisojreaKPnAi5Sl9TbULgOidHaf-uzsXOp6Qfeqb91LXhh9xZDrDandpaegqaz2P21L/s1600-h/scan0011.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426166323704935810" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 233px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghnna22W9-4n5n_0fzN3phMgGUjYAQ0a7OCvWxLcNz4xeULcb_7Y4zaxkw8baNY5pFfi5g4CfKZisojreaKPnAi5Sl9TbULgOidHaf-uzsXOp6Qfeqb91LXhh9xZDrDandpaegqaz2P21L/s320/scan0011.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />I then started looking at my computer game design books for inspiration of style. This first image is from the PS2 game Primal, and shows how a building exterior could look and the kind of thing we could hope to achieve. It also shows textures we could use for the Medieval style that our group has spoken about.<br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJeSzQZxO4iaTw05o2g6LYWZOHKxDwKAbdNDjM1KLNwNC6ZezSJB944Sb3DulN1vxLx_hWfUOI5NZ92I9-mARgXHssRDIHf_7kuGuv4MmtYnsJImUXVbI41eED4EFPrx5iCLtBtoIiaNAB/s1600-h/scan0005.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426166312881409458" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJeSzQZxO4iaTw05o2g6LYWZOHKxDwKAbdNDjM1KLNwNC6ZezSJB944Sb3DulN1vxLx_hWfUOI5NZ92I9-mARgXHssRDIHf_7kuGuv4MmtYnsJImUXVbI41eED4EFPrx5iCLtBtoIiaNAB/s320/scan0005.jpg" border="0" /></a><br />The next few images are concept art from Gears of War and Prince of Persia. I chose these images as I like the idea of the 'Destroyed Beauty', as it shows grand architecture that would once of been magnificent that for some reason has had bad things happen to it. I like this idea as it gives more depth and a narrative to the environment, almost making it a character in itself. This idea could be used for the change over time in the project brief if our group decides to take this route, and we could show a before and after of the buildings/rooms.<br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA0swATlPRZgx1bGUJwJiorVvGuDz3RjKA7XcgijTwLfvjPRvcXzuIqUCmYMAxGUnJKFHIqjFEpLRRXkLPtVDfYRUZxpfzYcpDeBZK3l_7uTJ6FpxSUhIyCCJUnxkbgMjzgoRy15abki_F/s1600-h/scan0009.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426163513629056706" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA0swATlPRZgx1bGUJwJiorVvGuDz3RjKA7XcgijTwLfvjPRvcXzuIqUCmYMAxGUnJKFHIqjFEpLRRXkLPtVDfYRUZxpfzYcpDeBZK3l_7uTJ6FpxSUhIyCCJUnxkbgMjzgoRy15abki_F/s320/scan0009.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><div>The Prince of Persia images are also very dark and atmospheric, and we could experiement well with the lighting to achieve this kind of effect. There is also an element of setting here, combining some element of nature within the architecture to give it different feelings and a sense of place. For example the type of plant life we may place in the environment will give a clue to its location as well as the style of the buildings.<br /></div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLGYAeVuQ3RsZAf_bDjD6Jw_iAf3wQ1wjWGd5ufw8B53-FUf-e_bRsCZatKisW_ju3PaKEMQXOqv-N_wvCcMX7CtlidTghoGmS8tfDpGldEjuNghfx_CFiLmAHB8R7Sz3sWEohXAKandNH/s1600-h/scan0004.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426163508288146242" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgLGYAeVuQ3RsZAf_bDjD6Jw_iAf3wQ1wjWGd5ufw8B53-FUf-e_bRsCZatKisW_ju3PaKEMQXOqv-N_wvCcMX7CtlidTghoGmS8tfDpGldEjuNghfx_CFiLmAHB8R7Sz3sWEohXAKandNH/s320/scan0004.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyt3t33QFsjnDww71cpxbnpV0S86pq7Fv0ejJFqscs1U-8PKFkdl7Cwp9qe6bKS_K4ImvJ6SPtQJ-MGsqHQXNGm-vtqJL9XsPR0UqMlLd3DDRfJSvN6Byq9xjRooA5FRR6iZl3G2ISFUgM/s1600-h/scan0003.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426163503318402338" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 233px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhyt3t33QFsjnDww71cpxbnpV0S86pq7Fv0ejJFqscs1U-8PKFkdl7Cwp9qe6bKS_K4ImvJ6SPtQJ-MGsqHQXNGm-vtqJL9XsPR0UqMlLd3DDRfJSvN6Byq9xjRooA5FRR6iZl3G2ISFUgM/s320/scan0003.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /></div><div>These last two images are from the game Fable. I believe they combine the above ideas, using a grand castle like structure that looks powerful, it is set on the hill giving a sense of place, and the first image shows foreboding atmosphere. This is done with a great level of detail, which I would like to create in the group environment.</div><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibVIICzu1AdGfVPFv9r60zdFvPzgZ5VxIrggantf6xRm03qVKUh3u1dmdrirgeEhHX5FGRcdkU5dyQfRB_6X-kHedDa1fHiIVfE7hyphenhyphenAnZ4rj9-34o92_vDUrM-tHV-PYlaF_wTyiTUK4CY/s1600-h/scan0002.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426163495336973826" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 251px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 320px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibVIICzu1AdGfVPFv9r60zdFvPzgZ5VxIrggantf6xRm03qVKUh3u1dmdrirgeEhHX5FGRcdkU5dyQfRB_6X-kHedDa1fHiIVfE7hyphenhyphenAnZ4rj9-34o92_vDUrM-tHV-PYlaF_wTyiTUK4CY/s320/scan0002.jpg" border="0" /></a><br /><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNgWJ2lTNb0cpFqd-2wUWlUsQIJ4kFFPD8rK2BEN9WBUMaEOV0L76sHdQ5KI27kVHOaJGz4vG2OeiLd4TcgDlxCC-MPUHrOIU8xQOnb-Avk3pQW-CxwlfBR362sJYIF4umbQkf9BRV8TLF/s1600-h/scan0001.jpg"><img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426163490321639074" style="DISPLAY: block; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 320px; CURSOR: hand; HEIGHT: 226px; TEXT-ALIGN: center" alt="" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhNgWJ2lTNb0cpFqd-2wUWlUsQIJ4kFFPD8rK2BEN9WBUMaEOV0L76sHdQ5KI27kVHOaJGz4vG2OeiLd4TcgDlxCC-MPUHrOIU8xQOnb-Avk3pQW-CxwlfBR362sJYIF4umbQkf9BRV8TLF/s320/scan0001.jpg" border="0" /></a> </div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div><br /><br /><br /><br /><div></div></div></div></div>Hayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8009599014026843434.post-78162105129163107362010-01-13T01:54:00.000-08:002010-03-08T13:01:04.639-08:00Group ProjectHi there, this is my Blog for the group Environment Project. For this we will be working with IDEAS students who will be presenting their ideas to us tomorrow. I will do some initial research before this to get ideas to enhance my ideas while the other students present. I will be working with Lydia and Andi for this project, although more people may yet join.<br /><br />I would ideally like to animate and model during this project as these are the areas I may move into when I have finished University, yet I am willing to learn about texturing and lighting as part of the process.<br /><br />The brief is as follows:<br /><br /><br />Unit Introduction<br />This unit focuses on the development of students’ skills in environmental computer visualisation. Students begin to exploit the possibilities of animation within an environment to create a virtual setting to support dynamic character interaction.<br /><br />Working in teams to simulate conventional animation industry workflow, students are introduced to the visualisation and creation of an environment in 3D using modelling, texturing and lighting techniques. They learn how to create and populate this environment with contextually appropriate assets, in a consistently defined and implemented visual aesthetic that is derived from their drawing and research into environments both actual and virtual.<br /><br />The Unit aims:<br /><br />To introduce industrial, team based, animation workflows;<br />To develop personal reflection upon individual contribution to group endeavour;<br />To develop UV mapping and texturing skills;<br />To develop the ability to generate considered and analytical visual responses to research.<br /><br /><br />Project Brief<br />For this project you will be working in teams of four or five students. You will all be working towards a final collaborative short film but will have the opportunity to fulfil clear and separate roles within the team.<br /><br />You will be working to create an animated environment.<br />You will be collaborating not only with the other animators in your team, but also with designers from the environment design course.<br />Their designs will form the starting point for your work.<br /><br />This environment will be modelled in 3D, UV mapped, textured and lit based upon the research of materials and environments as initially designed or propsed by IDEAS students. This research will consist of practical site visits (such as the trip to Barcelona and alternative London based venues) and associated drawing and photography, as well as academic research via the web and the LRC.<br /><br />This environment must demonstrate integral animation, it could be mechanical such as machinery, doors, windows, windmills etc, or it could be more organic, and atmospheric, such as the effects of wind on plants, weather conditions etc. It could be a much more long term animation to show the effect of years passing, rather than minutes. For those of you who feel that you are more character animators than computer visualisers you can focus upon contextualising the designed environment by populating it with characters using that environment, it may be that the environment is being used in an unintended or unexpected way that has evolved through public interaction with the space. (Was the South Bank designed for skateboarding or parkour?).<br /><br />It may be easier for you to think about defining the way in which you will approach this project by choosing one of the themes listed below.<br /><br />a) Changes over time (historic).<br />b) Changes in weather or lighting (climatic).<br />c) Changes in use of the environment (contextual).<br /><br />Although you will be working as part of a team towards your final animation, you will also be required to provide evidence of your individual contribution to the project via a blogged design journal where you will document your personal research, experimentation, and acquiring of new skills.<br /><br /><br />Schedule:<br /><br />Week One:<br />• Gather team members so I know who I am working with<br />• Research different types of location that we could possibly create for our environment.<br /><br />Week Two:<br />• Define topic of research for final ideas<br />• Do the actual research<br />• Concept stage for initial ideas<br /><br />Week Three:<br />• Finalise concept<br />• Planning – where everything will be placed in the environment<br />• Begin modelling<br /><br />Week Four:<br />• Modelling<br />• Begin to think about colour schemes/ palettes<br />• Storyboards<br /><br />Week Five:<br />• Modelling<br />• Texturing<br />• Animation Tests<br />• Camera shots<br /><br />Week Six<br />• Texturing<br />• Animation definition (which will be used and where)<br /><br />Week Seven:<br />• Lighting<br />• Final bits of texturing<br />• Finalise animation<br />• Possibly start rendering<br /><br />Week Eight:<br />• Rendering<br />• Compositing<br />• Add sound effects and musicHayley Allenhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09440649134147888356noreply@blogger.com0
